Just bought the Kindle version of "Warfare in Neolithic Europe". Thanks for the recommendation.

Don't mean to self promote, but this great list of books sets it up nicely and is something I think readers would appreciate. I recently launched an app called CommonPlace (link to follow) that enables readers to save their favorite quotes and annotations and post to a reddit / twitter style platform to interact with other readers (apple.co/3Cgs4YV) . Would love for people on this substack to post their favorite passages from erudite books. It's only available for iPhones right not but a website should be live in February and hopefully an android app by March. Goodreads is a pretty terrible product and only covers book reviews, we are trying to be the centralized community for people to discuss the contents of book at a direct quote level of detail. It can also be leveraged to host digital book clubs, bible studies, and classrooms. Reach out if you have any questions by emailing me at admin@commonplaceapp.com. Cheers and happy New Year!

Just wanted to add my book to the list which explains you can not understand many Chinese martial arts if you don't understand the importance of flaying and cannibalism. Thanks! https://amzn.to/3Q2oK9D

Make sure you rest. If you got Jabbed it may explain the poorer health since some science-medical professionals said, but were ignored, that the treatment in the Jabs could create more severe reactions to any virus, which of course includes the common cold and Flu. Get some zinc, Vitamin C and lots of rest. Your columns are too good to lose.

I'm buying two of these, since this site has sparked a new interest for me in our origins

Splendid review, many thanks. Have bought Liu and Chen's 'Archaeology of China' (I wonder why publishers still insist on reversing the order of Chinese names) and Warfare in Neolithic Europe. The former based on your comment that there may be archaeological evidence to support the accounts of emperor Yao: something more convincing than the usual CCP bluster.

As to the latter, who could resist? On the question of why we all live in hierarchies, that is, ordered states, I humbly recommend Hobbes; in particular, Leviathan 13:14,

"The passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to commodious living; and a hope by their industry to obtain them. And reason suggesteth convenient articles of peace upon which men may be drawn to agreement."
